A Long Walk to Water |
THE STORY OF NYA.
Nya, a girl from Sudan travels from home to pond on foot, she collects water for herself and for her family. She walks eight hours a day. Nya lives in a village although they don’t stay there too often. Nya's tribe, the Nuer often fought with Dinka tribe and old and young people died so they moved to a camp near a big lake. What Nya liked about the camp was she doesn't need to walk for water, she just needs to dig for water but her mother hated the camp. They slept in a makeshift tent and Nya's father and brother need to go hunting and Nya's mother was afraid that they might run into Dinka's tribesmen and get hurt. Soon Nya's little sister Akeer got sick because of the water because it was brown and muddy. Soon they got back and Akeer got better then a Dinka man wanted to build a well. Nya was wondering why would a Dinka bring water to them. But it turns out that the man helping them is Salva, now fully grown.
